How to Sell Anything and Build a Customer Base

How to Sell Anything and Build a Customer Base.

These days, selling has become an essential skill and a daily aspect of our lives. We sell daily; directly or indirectly, online or offline, on a one-time basis on continuously.

As a salesman myself, I say sales is everything we do. From the way you present yourself to attract the right people for the commodity or service you intend to sell even before you find someone to offer your merchandise to for sale. So, marketing mixes with sales, which is more about publicizing the products you are offering to sell in other to create an aura around the product or service so as to attract sales.

So to sell any anything, sell more and sell better? Here are 8 tips to shoot your sales out the roof:

You are the first thing to sell:

Yes! People miss this point often forgetting that you as the person offering something for sale need to successfully sell yourself first. The customer usually must have bought you before even buying what you are selling. Selling yourself isn’t about talking or bragging about yourself, but being presentable and attractive to your target. Being well dressed, good courtesy and excellent knowledge of your products are examples of the signs the customer places you in high repute in their minds.

2.       It is not about you, but the customer:

Oh, is this beginning to sound tricky? First I said you should sell yourself and now… Yes, making a sale isn’t about you but about the customer. Good salespeople get to know more about the customer when they get the chance to meet one-on-one. They listen keenly and try to understand the pain of the customer and ultimately know how to present relief or gain to the customer through they are selling. Get to know more about the customer, build a rapport, understand the needs of the customer, and build trust. You will be able to sell anything to this customer and mostly get tons of referrals.

3.       Sell a GAIN and don’t sell what you can’t buy:

I’ve seen many salespeople “trying to just make ends meet”. Sorry to break to you but im not buying! There are genuine needs out there, so many problems that require a solution and once your product or service is a solution (gain) then you are on your way to closing so many deals. You can only sell a bad product to the same customer once, and that’s it. You can’t sell again to that customer because they already know you are selling a poor product or service and you get zero referrals from them. A gain is what people need to the pains that they have and wants to make them part ways with their money.

4.       Sell to the right people, know your target market:

All products or service are not for everyone. Different products or services have been designed or should be designed to sell easily to the target market. Let me break it to you, you can’t sell a service worth of N50,000 to someone who earns less than N500 per day. It’s a waste of your time as they would just admire it. Research and design what you are selling to suit a particular category of people and just go straight when the time to sell comes. The reason why most sales days are wasted is that you try to sell to people who can’t afford to buy what you are offering.

Keep it brief:

Make it simple and brief. If it is good, relieves the pain and affordable to the customer and you connected well with the customer, then trust me it is going to take less time to close the deal. Just understand what you are selling and what the customer is looking to buy.

6.       100% Money back guarantee:

This has proven to be one of the best sales boosters. The confidence and audacity that accompanies that sentence is powerful and turns in sales much more than you ever would have sold. Buyers believe you know your product and you are confident of the quality. Also, they feel like they have nothing to lose in the end after buying the product; its either they get value or they get their money back. However, make sure to mean it and make refunds to people who have purchased from you when they have a claim that they are unhappy after using your service or product. This will further strengthen your sales.

Make use of discounts to sell more:

Offer discounts to customers who buy more. You really don’t need to give your items for free for more purchase. You may offer the customer “4 packs/visits get the 5th at 30% discount.”

8.       Aftersales and follow up:

Follow up follow up! Make sure your customer is able to make productive use of what the bought from you. Give them maintenance tips and how to maximize what you sold to them. You can also create a short video that they can always refer to if need be.

Happy selling!
